Mark Thompson

April 18, 1940 - November 24, 2021

Mark Anthony Thompson, 81, passed away peacefully Nov. 24, 2021, from Covid at Holy Family Providence Hospital in Spokane, Wash. Mark was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and mentor to many. As a life-long resident of the Okanogan community, he was known for his knowledge in raising cattle and producing top quality alfalfa hay. Mark was the owner of the Thompson Hereford Ranch where he specialized in purebred Hereford bulls. He was a lifetime member of the American Hereford Association and a member of the Oregon, Washington, and North Idaho (OWN!) Hereford Association. Ranching brought him much joy that he loved to share with those around him. Mark was always lending a helping hand and took great joy in supporting his community. Mark was a member of the Okanogan First Baptist Church where he attended as a child with his parents George and Flora Thompson. Mark was a proud Okanogan Bulldog. He attended the Okanogan School District, K-12 and was very fond of his Okanogan classmates; especially the class of 1958. A highlight of many summers was attending the Okanogan class reunions. Mark drove the school bus for the Okanogan School District for over 40 years. He greatly enjoyed driving the sports bus and supporting many generations of Okanogan County athletes. As a community volunteer he spent many hours coaching and supporting Okanogan High School athletics including coaching soccer and AAU youth basketball. Mark is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; daughter, Lori; son, Tyler; stepchildren, Kirby, Kenneth, and Kris; and grandchildren, Alayna, Jordan, Jasmine, Hailey, Sev and Vivienne. A celebration of Mark’s life is planned at the Okanogan First Baptist Church on April 30, 2022 at 1:00 P.M.
