June Petersen

June Jeanette Petersen loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother & Great Great Grandmother passed away Wednesday August 24, 2022. She was born June 15th 1926 to Jennie and Omar Gordon McLean in Yakima Washington. At a very early age the family moved to Conconully Washington and lived in a small cabin where the upper reservoir is today. She was a life long resident of Washington state. June Graduated Okanogan High School in 1943.To support the war effort she worked at the ship yards in Seattle as a scaler becoming a member of the Ship Scalers Union. After the war she moved to Everett where she was married to the love of her life Leonard Petersen on December 21, 1947. They returned to spend the rest of their lives at 645 8th ave. south in Okanogan Wa. June was a telephone operator in Okanogan until "Dial" phones were brought to the Valley. Yes she listened to her children’s phone calls and had a buddy system among the other operators to police their children’s every movement. (Most of the Time). After the Phone system was revolutionized she went to work at The Okanogan Independent News Paper selling advertising and printing supplies in the business end of the building. In the 60's she ventured into business ownership buying the "Mode-O-Day Ladies clothing store in Omak. She not only owned and operated the clothing store she was the Landlord of the Sears catalog store next door until she retired selling the building and business. June was a wife, Mother, Mentor & Motivator and was always willing to listen to those with life's challenges offering solace and support. June spent the last two years of her life at Apple Spring Retirement Home where she developed many new friends and acquaintances. She enjoyed the Fellowship and activities offered there that were unavailable to her after losing most of her vision over the last few years to macular degeneration. June is survived by her Daughter Marlene Petersen of Sand Point Idaho, son Dale Petersen and wife Brenda of Carlton Washington, five Grandchildren (3) Step Grandchild, Six Great Grandchildren (3) step Great Grandchildren. Nine Great Great Grandchildren. She will certainly be missed by everyone that knew her. She will be forever Loved and Cherished by her many friends and family and will remain in our Hearts. Graveside Services will be held Saturday September 10, at 11:00 A.M. at Okanogan City Cemetery, arrangements provided by River Valley Funeral Home.
